Last Winter we had a lot of rain in California so this Spring our family decided to catch the desert blooms after all that rain. After some Internet searching and talking with friends, we chose our destination, the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. We wanted to see the desert flowers and at the same time see the metallic sculptures in Borrego Springs that everyone talks about.
Our visit to the park was in March so the temperature was cool and we had a nice clear blue sky day. Following the map that we purchased from the Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association bookstore in Borrego Springs, we drove out in search of the metallic creatures. We enjoyed our scenic drive along the Borrego Springs Road. Along the road, we saw sculpted metallic creatures popping up: Prehistoric Elephants, Saber-tooth cat, Tyrannosaurus, giant bird of prey, Scorpion and a 350-foot long Sea Serpent/Dragon. These 130 or so art pieces were created by sculptor Ricardo Breceda in 2008.
Nice pictures!
